CONFERENCE
India - Pakistan Conference: A Road Map towards Peace
10th to 12th of January 2010 in New Delhi, India

South Asia has become a volatile region over the years. Both India and Pakistan have, for the last 62 years, seen many ups and downs in bilateral relationships and talk. They completed four rounds and fifth are in progress, but the entire scenario has been hijacked after the attack on Mumbai in November 2008. The dialogue is important because another war between two countries has to be avoided at all costs.

Before that due to the pressure from national and international community Indian Prime Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh and Pakistani President Mr. Asif Ali Zardari met in Russia, and then Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistani Prime Minister Mr. Yousuf Raza Gilani met in Egypt. Here they signed a joint statement of Sir Creek, which set off huge controversy in India. Again they decided to meet during the United Nations General Assembly in September, 2009 in New York, but that could not break through. So there was an urgent need for peace movements, democratic minded citizens, political parties and progressive sections of the government of the two countries to come together to evolve an agenda and a road map for peace.

Normally single organization organized this kind of conference, but the uniqueness of this project was that various organizations like ANHAD, Centre for policy analysis, COVA, Focus on the Global South, SAHR, SAPA and HBS etc. came together to organize this event jointly in Delhi India. Mr. Kuldip Nayar was the Chairperson of the organizing committee.
